Do Homonyms Make It Right … Or Write?

By:  Jack Osborne

If someone says  English is an easy language they're not right or write. They’re wrong. English is a tough language to speak, read and write.

English has words like “right” and “write” (and also “wright” and “rite”). How can all of these words be spelled differently, mean different things and still be pronounced exactly the same? Words like these are homonyms.

This is difficult enough if you are a native speaker of English. If you were born in an English-speaking country, do you even know what a “wright” is? But, if English is your second language your eyes are probably glazing over.
