What Is The Difference Between Grammar And Grammer?

One big reason is very simple.  In English business writing you had better use good spelling.  Perhaps you are writing a cover letter for a job. It may be the best cover letter you’ve ever written. It may make you the obvious choice for the job.  But you had better use correct grammar and spelling.

If you don’t use correct grammar and spelling you will look...

  1. as if you’re not very smart, and
  2. as if you certainly couldn’t present yourself in writing in a proper manner.

Using poor grammar and spelling in business communications will make the company, for which you work, look bad.  And can you think of a company that wants to look bad?  In general, good spelling says something about a writer.

Another reason to spell words correctly is because English is a tricky language. You can tell a “tale” (or story) and a dog has a “tail”.  You may “accept” (or take) a gift, but your mother may say it’s okay to accept gifts from everyone “except” (but not) from strangers.  If you spell words incorrectly, or use them in the wrong way, you may change the whole meaning of your sentences and give readers incorrect information.

It is also very possible that English is not your first language. While there are many native English speakers who are poor spellers, spelling in English is even more difficult for those who are learning English.

It is also very difficult for those who are learning English to read English that is poorly spelled. Unlike native speakers of English, people learning English may not understand misspelled words in the sentence.
