Do Homonyms Make It Right … Or Write?

If you use your computer to write, either for work or school, you probably know that the spell checker on your word processor will miss these differences in use and spelling. And even if you know the differences, you may mistakenly use the wrong word. It’s easy to do this when you’re churning out a writing project. Plus, it’s always difficult to edit your own writing, so you may miss the mistake when you read over what you’ve written.

And then there’s the matter of grammar and punctuation, not to mention writing style. Not everyone is a grammar pro with good punctuation. And about writing style – well - most people are not born writers. Will your computer’s word processor help you? Yes, to some extent. Will it help you for all cases? That’s questionable but probably not.

As mentioned above, a computer’s writing software (word processor), which typically comes with the computer, generally can’t intelligently distinguish between words due to their contextual use - as long as a word is spelled correctly it passes the word processor’s test. And, if you make an error in grammar or punctuation this software may underline your mistake. But does it fix the mistake? No. Does that underline tell you exactly what the problem is? No.

If your English writing style is terrific and you have great grammar and spelling skills, perhaps you can look at the underlined word and know what the mistake is. But, if you’re not a natural writer and have problems with English writing skills and style, or if English is not your native language, you may be in trouble.

So what to do? There is an answer.

Powerful intelligent writing software is available now that not only will correct spelling, even if you use the wrong homonym, will correct punctuation (not just tell you that it’s wrong), but also will help you enhance your English writing style. This software checks your written work as a whole and measures how individual words are used within the context of other words around them. It does not have the limitation of word processors, which merely check each word, one at a time. So this software is able to help you better with your grammar, spelling, punctuation and style. It also can help you learn because it displays the changes necessary, and suggests improvements. Thus, you see the incorrect version and the corrected version for comparison.

Every writer, whether they are writing for school, for work or even for casual uses like emails or letters needs powerful writing software. It costs slightly more than a word processor, but it’s worth every penny.
